2020 Ciel du Cheval Syrah

We are lucky to source Syrah from many fabulous growers and sites across Washington State. Whenever we find one of those wines in the cellar that is somehow both distinctive and delicious, we immediately think to bottle it as a single vineyard Syrah just for our club members. Our 2020 quest for something special led us once again to the Syrah from Ciel du Cheval on Red Mountain. As always, this deep purple wine is more savory in character than many of our other Syrahs. From the enticing aroma to the long finish, focused, super-dark fruits and Asian plum sauce combine seamlessly with fresh-ground black pepper and a structured core of classic Red Mountain dusty tannins and minerality. With extra time in the glass this wine becomes even more expressive, suggesting that those who cellar it patiently for 2-5 years may be well rewarded. Even today though, this wine pairs beautifully with salty fair, for example prosciutto or other cured meats.
