WINE CLUB ONLY
It became obvious from the day the grapes were picked and delivered that our 2017 club designated Syrah would be from famed Red Willow Vineyard. The fruit came into the winery already perfectly balanced – not too much sugar, and just enough natural acids – a very rare combination in the heat of eastern Washington State. Co-fermented with Viognier from Dineen Vineyard, the result is a Syrah that is both darker in color and lighter on the tongue.
Though saturated purple in color, this wine is otherwise largely a study in balanced refinement and restraint. The nose opens with notes of sweet blueberries, cedar, sage, clove, light orange rind, dark chocolate and a minerality unique to Red Willow. Savory flavors dominate on the palate, featuring white miso, lightly mesquite smoked meats, and toasted walnuts, with seamlessly integrated hints of marionberry and high-country huckleberries. The long finish features medium-weight slightly chalky tannins that yield to lingering savory notes. This wine is delicious now and has the potential to age into something truly extraordinary in the years to come!
